My great grandfather who for some reason before his first marriagechanged his name and dropped the Halstead to become James Tattersall.
Henry Halstead was a cotton warp dresser and lived at 6 Midgeley St inColne on the 1881 Census.
Henry South was a train driver and presumably came to Colne withrailways. He must have arrived before 1865.
Maude is first found on the 1871 census for Colne. She is living with herparents on Bunkers Hill.
She is next found on the 1881 census living with her sister Frances andher husband on Primet Bridge as her father had remarried by this time andwas living in Ingleton.
I have a strange affinity to Maude as she was the first South to be bornin Colne and I was the last.
